An early spring saw Wanaka Retirement Village gardens bloom and blossom with amazing vigour and all gardens were a delight to enjoy.
Visitors often comment on the variety of garden plants, the brilliant colour of each season, and the general presentation of the Village grounds.
Spring rolled into Christmas 2017 and the Christmas buffet. Tables were set up inside the Pembroke Lounge and outside into the courtyard, ham was calved, Pavlova vanished quickly then all settled down to hear Maniototo farmer and opera singer David McAtamney talk about another interest of his - the annual Cavalcade. David completed the evening with a few favourite songs.
Summer 2017-18 was certainly one we will all remember for a long time. It was the hottest anyone can recall so Villagers had their air-conditioners working overtime for several weeks. The office did an impromptu ice block round of the Village on one of the hottest days and that was certainly appreciated by the Villagers.
Warmer days mean more Villagers attending activities such as a visit to the Wanaka Lavender farm, an evening of pizza with Happy Hour, fitness sessions, games afternoons and morning teas including browsing books with a Wanaka librarian.
One morning tea session was with Otago University Geography students researching why people retired to Wanaka. Another morning tea session had Wanaka Medical Centre patients receiving their flu injections. A presentation on glaucoma and general eye health was also well attended.
The Bullock Creek Reserve boardwalk, paths and seating have extended our 'home turf' and although not yet officially open, the handy gate in our boundary fence saw many Villagers enjoy this new park over Summer. Sitting on solid wooden seats under the oak tree watching the bird life was a favourite pastime.
The annual Villager Satisfaction Survey was completed and showed once again that Villagers feel this is still a great place to call home.
All in all, an active and very enjoyable summer.
